June 16

The third Thursday poetry reading at the lunchbox will feature Maria Polson Veres, who recently published her fourth book of poetry, The breaking point. church people, her previous book, was a finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award. Ms. Veres has frequently read at Third Thursday and other events, and teaches creative writing at the Francis Tuttle Technology Center. His presentation will begin at 7 p.m., followed by open-mic readings. The Lunch Box, at 217 East Main, will open at 6 p.m. for those who want to order a meal.

June 17

The Arts @317 celebrates its 7th anniversary at June Block pARTy, Friday, June 17, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Nancy Hunter is our featured artist. His mugs and jars of honey as well as other works will be exhibited. Nancy will be available to visit participants about her work. There will also be a corn hole and sidewalk chalk outside and maybe some music.

June 21st

Life Recovery Shawnee, a Christ-centered addiction recovery support group, meets every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Open Door Church of God located at 1200 N. Tucker Street in Shawnee. Wesley United Methodist Church will host Clothes Closet on June 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

June 25

The Shawnee Public Library has partnered with the non-profit group Churches Caring for Creation to provide free community recycling for Styrofoam. Scheduled for Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, this will be a drive-through event at the library. In case of rain on June 25, the event will take place on Saturday July 2. The library is located at 101 N. Philadelphia.

Pleasant Grove Public School will participate in the Summer Food Program Monday, June 6 through Thursday, June 30 at Pleasant Grove School from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

11 July

The Wesley United Methodist Church will host Vacation Bible School July 11-14 from 6-8 p.m. The theme is “Passport to Peace”.
